After limping along for a couple of years, the MAC Sport Center has a new name and outlook after it was sold last month to the developer of a similar facility in Stoughton. Tom Weigand is the principal owner of Verona Athletic Center, LLC, a small group of partners who purchased the MAC Center Dec. 21 for an undisclosed sum. Weigand, who lives in the Town of Verona, said he hopes the revamped VAC will become what the Stoughton Wellness and Athletic Center is in Stoughton – a hub for youth sports and side businesses that draws up to 85,000 visitors annually.

Farley Center becomes a haven for living - and dying - green

Shortly before Linda Farley died of cancer in June 2009, the retired Town of Springdale physician and longtime social justice advocate had a simple request of her husband, Gene: She wanted to be buried at home. The day his wife died, Gene asked the undertaker to hold the body and called the Town of Springdale clerk to check his options. As it turns out, Wisconsin law allowed him to bury his wife on their land. Later in 2009, acting on the wishes of his four sons, Farley and other volunteers launched what is now the Linda and Gene Farley Center for Peace, Justice and Sustainability.
