VAHS has brief lockdown

A brief lockdown at Verona Area High School Monday led to citations for three juveniles but did not involve any weapons, Verona police said Tuesday.

Verona police reported that the school voluntarily went into a lockdown around 3 p.m. after receiving a report that two juvenile males were traveling to the school on bicycles. One was reportedly carrying a handgun to start a fight with another student.

While school officials checked out the information, students were not allowed to leave the school and school buses were held. The lockdown ended shortly before 4 p.m. after officials were unable to substantiate the threat.

Verona police later identified three juvenile males who do not attend VAHS but were involved in the incident. They were cited for trespassing.

Police were unable to provide their ages or hometowns Tuesday.
