Live music, new art exhibits and readings by authors and poets are some of the highlights of "Summer in Paoli" this Saturday.
The annual event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at several locations in the hamlet four miles south of Verona.
One show that's sure to draw a crowd is a free concert by Harmonious Wail from 1 to 4 p.m. on the terrace of the Paoli Mill. The popular Madison band specializes in "gypsy swing" music.
Paoli Schoolhouse Shops will also host book signings by two authors, beginning at 11 a.m. Marshall Cook, who teaches at the University of Wisconsin's Department of Continuing Education, has penned more than 20 nonfiction books and the "Monona Quinn" mystery series. He'll be signing his book, "Obsession."
Cook will be joined by Catherine Conrad, also known as "The Banana Lady," who wrote the children's book, "The Lemonade Stand."
Just down the street, the acerbic Madison cartoonist P.S. Mueller will sign books from 10 a.m. to noon at the Creamery Cafe
The Paoli House Gallery will have a new exhibit, "Landscapes," with featured artists Scott Davidson, Christian Grooms, Ivan Kende, Susan Leggitt, Royal Purdy and Jamie Young. (The opening reception is Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.). The gallery will also serve up homemade pies Saturday and provide materials for children to paint on the building's front porch.
Also for the kids, a facepainter will be making the rounds throughout the event.
Paoli Pub will serve hot dogs in its parking lot, and other shops and galleries will also have special sales or promotions during the day.
